The tea tree is a small shrub native to Australia. It has needle-shaped leaves and purple or yellow flowers. It can grow up to seven meters high. It used to grow in swamp areas, but today it is mostly planted in farms. The local aborigines regard the tea tree as a health  supplement. They soak its leaves in water and drink them to relieve discomfort and replenish their vitality. The ancient English name of the tea tree is "ti tree". When the British Captain Cook first landed in Australia in 1770, he used the leaves of this tree to make tea because there were no the others tea leaves.Therefore, it has been called the tea tree from this period. Although It has not related with traditional black tea.

During World War II, tea tree was also used for sterilization,so tea tree producers and harvesters were exempted from military service until tea tree essential oil could meet the needs of the army. Now, tea tree is still widely used in daily necessities.

Tea tree is non-toxic and non-irritating, and is considered a must-have essential oil in the home along with lavender.
